THE MINISTER OF HEALTH OF Sri Lanka, Pavithra Wanniarachchi confirmed positive for COVID-19.
She was previously criticized for supporting and practicing drinking herbal syrup made by shamans, supposedly a cure for coronavirus.
An official from the Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed that Pavithra is the highest-ranking official so far infected with the virus.

Doctors say there is no scientific basis to support the intake of the syrup as a cure for coronavirus.
The syrup is said to contain honey and nutmeg.
Last December, thousands of people lined up in the city of Kegalle, northeast of the capital Colombo, to get the syrup after Pavithra and several other government officials publicly drank it.
The syrup maker claimed she got the formula from the power of God.
