Analysis: What Is Finance?

Finance

The finance field includes three main subcategories: personal finance, corporate finance, and public (government) finance. Financial services are the processes by which consumers and businesses acquire financial goods.

The financial services sector is a primary driver of a nation’s economy.

Types of Finance Since individuals, businesses, and government entities all need funding to operate, the finance field includes three main subcategories: personal finance, corporate finance, and public (government) finance.

Personal Finance Financial planning involves analyzing the current financial position of individuals to formulate strategies for future needs within financial constraints.

Personal finance is specific to every individual’s situation and activity; therefore, financial strategies depend largely on the person’s earnings, living requirements, goals, and desires. Individuals must save for retirement, for example, which requires saving or investing enough money during their working lives to fund their long-term plans.

This type of financial management decision falls under personal finance. Personal finance includes the purchasing of financial products such as credit cards, insurance, mortgages, and various types of investments. Banking is also considered a component of personal finance since individuals use checking and savings accounts, and online or mobile payment services such as PayPal and Venmo.

Finance Corporate Finance Corporate finance refers to the financial activities related to running a corporation, usually with a division or department set up to oversee those financial activities. One example of corporate finance: A large company may have to decide whether to raise additional funds through a bond issue or stock offering. Investment banks may advise the firm on such considerations and help them market the securities. Startups may receive capital from angel investors or venture capitalists in exchange for a percentage of ownership.

If a company thrives and decides to go public, it will issue shares on a stock exchange through an initial public offering (IPO) to raise cash. In other cases, a company might be trying to budget its capital and decide which projects to finance and which to put on hold in order to grow the company. All of these types of decisions fall under corporate finance.

Public Finance Public finance includes tax, spending, budgeting, and debt issuance policies that affect how a government pays for the services it provides to the public.

The federal government helps prevent market failure by overseeing the allocation of resources, distribution of income, and economic stability. Regular funding is secured mostly through taxation. Borrowing from banks, insurance companies, and other nations also help finance government spending.

In addition to managing money in day-to-day operations, a government body also has social and fiscal responsibilities. A government is expected to ensure adequate social programs for its tax-paying citizens and to maintain a stable economy so that people can save and their money will be safe.

Financial Services Financial services are the processes by which consumers and businesses acquire financial goods. One straightforward example is the financial service offered by a payment system provider when it accepts and transfers funds between payers and recipients.

This includes accounts settled via checks, credit and debit cards, or electronic funds transfer. Financial services are not the same as financial goods. Financial goods are products, such as mortgages, stocks, bonds, and insurance policies; financial services are tasks—for example, the investment advice and management a financial advisor provides for a client.

The financial services sector is one of the most important segments of the economy. It drives a nation’s economy, providing the free flow of capital and liquidity in the marketplace. It is made up of a variety of financial firms, including banks, investment houses, finance companies, insurance companies, lenders, accounting services, and real estate brokers.

When this sector and a country’s economy are strong, it boosts consumer confidence and purchasing power.

When the financial services sector fails, it can drag down the economy and lead to a recession.

What Are Financial Activities?

Financial activities are the initiatives and transactions that businesses, governments, and individuals undertake as they seek to further their economic goals. They are activities that involve the inflow or outflow of money. Examples include buying and selling products (or assets), issuing stocks, initiating loans, and maintaining accounts. When a company sells shares and makes debt repayments, these are both financial activities.

Similarly, individuals and governments are involved in financial activities, such as taking out loans and levying taxes, which further specific monetary objectives.

PENGELUARAN SIJIL PALSU, PEN PENGARAH ANTARA EMPAT DITAHAN SPRM SABAH

SHAFIE: ALASAN DARURAT BERSIFAT POLITIK, PKP CUKUP UNTUK KAWAL COVID-19

OLEH PEMBERITA SABAHTODAY

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (WARISAN) menyembah maklum dan menjunjung kasih perkenan Yang DiPertuan Agong dalam proklamasi Darurat di seluruh negara berkuat kuasa sehingga 1 Ogos 2021.

Presiden WARISAN, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd.

HEY, ABOUT TIME ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS SENT BACK, PBS, GRS REMINDED – SABAH TODAY

A Warisan leader has challenged Perikatan Nasional (PN) to settle the perennial illegal immigrants issue in Sabah by deporting them without any further delay now that there is ‘political alignment’ between Sabah and Putrajaya.

ADVERTISEMENTREPORT THIS AD

Warisan Wirawati Deputy Chief, Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas said that the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Home Minister, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin must now fulfill their promises to Sabahans in view of the said alignment.

“It has been almost a year since PN took over the Federal Government and so far, there has been no substantive action to flush out the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in Sabah apart from the normal ‘catch and detain’ by police.

Under the then Pakatan Harapan federal government, it was none other than Muhyiddin who proposed the issuance of Pas Sementara Sabah (PSS) to the Sabah government as a solution to the illegal immigrant problem.

The Warisan-led government then promoted the PSS proposal but later withdrew it after the Kimanis parliamentary by-election last year.

File photo showing Sabah leaders opposing legalisation of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

Several GRS leaders had loudly objected to it and threw all sorts of allegations against the party that were meant to scare the KDM voters such as ‘Warisan is pro illegal immigrants’ or ‘Warisan is helping the illegal immigrants to acquire citizenship’.

Now that these leaders are in power with the said political alignment having been achieved, their previous call to deport all the illegal immigrants has suddenly fizzled out,” she said in a statement today.

Jo-Anna said that this inaction from PN to deport the illegal immigrants instead of issuing PSS is actually a serious challenge to their own credibility.

“When desperate politicians promise the moon and the stars during campaigning but later fail to deliver, then it will cost them the people’s trust and respect.

PBS leaders such as Datuk Joniston Bangkuai who previously cited some sections in the Immigration Act to substantiate his argument that the illegal immigrants can be deported and Datuk Jahid Jahim who gave a lengthy explanation on the differences between Kad Burung-burung (issued by PBS) and the proposed PSS must now impress upon the Sabahans that they are men of credibility and flush out the PTIs in Sabah,” she said.

She pointed out that in view of the very weak position held by GRS, Sabahans play a powerful role as Kingmaker in the State by demanding the coalition to proceed with the deportation immediately.

“Sabah NGOs, community leaders and individuals who wish to see GRS perform efficiently can pressure the coalition to get their act together because GRS has a very slim majority.

This is more so since GRS is made up of parties that are suspicious of each other and hence, the only way to make them work efficiently for Sabahans is to openly pressure them.

And GRS cannot push the blame on WarisanPlus because they are the government of the day. To do that would be irresponsible on their part and they might as well allow WarisanPlus to lead the State.”

WATCH YOUR MOUTH, PAKATAN HARAPAN LEADERS IN MALAYA TOLD WATCH YOUR MOUTH, PAKATAN HARAPAN LEADERS IN MALAYA TOLD

JO-ANNA RAMPAS

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah has reiterated that there is no co-operation between the party and Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) or Perikatan Nasional (PN) to ensure Muhyiddin Yasin remains as the Prime Minister.

Wirawati deputy Chief, Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas said there is no reason for Warisan to work together with PN or PPBM since the latter had caused a lot of difficulty for Warisan.

“Firstly, PPBM backtracked on its pledge not to set up its branch in Sabah and secondly, right after the collapse of the PH Government in February, it pressured Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Shafie Apdal and other party leaders incessantly to submit to PN.

“The grand finale was their devious and cowardly failed attempt to topple the Warisan-Plus Sabah Government last July,” Jo-Anna said in a statement on Sunday in response to questions on the current political developments.

“So if there is anyone who would be happy to see Muhyiddin have a taste of his own medicine, it will be Warisan-Plus. Hence, my advice to national PH leaders who never went through what Warisan did but is now suddenly accusing us of aligning with PN is – to better watch their mouth,” she added.

SHAFIE APDAL
Jo-anna said the exemplary commitment and dignity displayed by Warisan MPs under the leadership of Shafie in Parliament allowed them to settle several crucial issues relating to Sabah.

“Last Thursday, during the Committee Stage debate on the Supply Bill 2021 Warisan MPs voted for the motion tabled by Upko, because firstly, Warisan MPs are under moral obligation to vote on motions relating to Sabah and secondly, Upko is steadfast in preserving its existing co-operation with Warisan.

And during the policy level debate on the Supply Bill 2021, Warisan MPs delivered two crucial improvements to the Bill namely an increase of Covid-19 allocation by another RM50 million and a review of the Elaun Perumahan Wilayah (EPW) for Sabahan officials working for the Federal Government in Putrajaya, both of which were then included in the Bill.

So the question of Warisan MPs not doing their job for Sabah is grossly misleading and the question that Sabahans should ask instead is “what did GRS MPs contribute to Sabah in that Supply Bill?” she added.

Jo-Anna said that Warisan will continue its political co-operation with PH and other opposition parties but reiterated the need for a credible and principled Opposition Leader.

“Warisan believes that the key to winning the upcoming general election is firstly to unite all Malaysians irrespective of their race and religion and to come out with a clear definition of “Bangsa Malaysia”. Thereafter, to come out with a new deal on social and economic ownerships for these are the issues that cause us to be polarised in the first place.

“We still honour the political pact between Warisan and PH/Upko but our concern is the lack of credibility on the part of Opposition Leader, Anwar Ibrahim and his capability to deliver which may cause PH voters to finally feel disillusioned.

“Warisan cannot continue to allow itself to be used for someone else’s personal agendas that have no benefit at all to Sabah. As a matter of principle, it is only apt that the party makes its stand known now and not when the election is around the corner,” she added.

TIBA MASA PEMIMPIN MUDA TAMPIL KUKUHKAN PEMBANGKANG
by SABAH TODAY
JO-ANNA SUE HENLEY RAMPAS
SABAHTODAY

Kelmarin, dua pemimpin pemuda iaitu Ketua Pemuda Amanah, Shazni Munir Mohd.

USAHA SHAFIE APDAL BANTU INDUSTRI TERJEJAS KINI TERBUKTI – SABAH TODAY

TEAM SABAHTODAY

Usaha memperkenal Sabah New Deal untuk memulihkan kembali ekonomi Sabah dilihat satu langkah bijak diambil kerajaan pimpinan Mohd Shafie.
